Broad upper trough will linger over the Northern Isles for much of Friday, the associated cold air aloft atop relatively warm SSTs generate a couple hundred J/kg. Scattered showers are expected, with a small risk of isolated lightning.
Elsewhere, a frontal zone will linger across Northern Ireland, southern Scotland and northern England. During the afternoon a new trough will approach Ireland from the Atlantic, forcing an area of showery rain which will run quickly eastwards from the Republic of Ireland to Wales and southern and central portions of England on Friday night. Marginal instability, strong shear and strong upper forcing suggests the potential for squally showers capable of producing a few lightning strikes and strong gusts of wind.
