The main interest on Friday will the passage of a pronounced shortwave sliding southeastwards across Ireland and into England and Wales. Some deep convection will be possible with this feature, forming linear segments capable of producing some strong gusts of winds. Despite rather weak CAPE, the strongly-sheared environment may be sufficient to compensate in allowing a few sporadic lightning strikes to occur. Greatest risk (albeit still fairly low) will likely be the Midlands and East Anglia.
This activity will clear to the North Sea by the evening hours, with the attention overnight shifting to Shetland where scattered showers could produce isolated lightning strikes.
