An upper trough will migrate eastwards across the British Isles on Wednesday, associated with a significant cold pool atop relatively warm seas. Steep mid-level lapse rates and a few hundred J/kg CAPE will aid the development of numerous showers, which will pile into many exposed western areas, but moving well-inland on strong winds and troughs embedded within the westerly flow. Some sporadic lightning is likely in places - climatologically, NW / W / SW Scotland, NW / W / SW Ireland, south Wales, SW England and NW England. Strong, gusty winds and small hail will accompany many of the showers, with snow on northern hills.
