Broad upper trough covers the British Isles on Tuesday, with notable cold pool creating an environment with very steep mid-level lapse rates and yielding a few hundred J/kg CAPE. Scattered showers will affect many areas at some stage during the day, most widespread across exposed western areas. A few isolated lightning strikes will be possible, along with hail. Showers will ease somewhat overnight as upper ridging builds from the west.
