Convective Outlook

VALID 06:00 UTC Fri 07 Feb 2020 - 05:59 UTC Sat 08 Feb 2020

ISSUED 06:50 UTC Fri 07 Feb 2020

ISSUED BY: Dan

Upper ridging, that has dominated across the British Isles during the past few days, will clear to the east, allowing an upper trough to approach from the Atlantic. On the forward side, a couple of shortwaves will run quickly northeastwards across Ireland and western Scotland. Frontal precipitation will affect Ireland and western Britain during the day, but on the rear side there may be scope for some deep convection to develop during the evening hours across Ireland.

Behind the frontal rain, approaching cold pool aloft will steepen mid-level lapse rates and generate a few hundred J/kg CAPE. Scattered showers will affect portions of W / NW Ireland and W Scotland during Friday night, perhaps producing a few isolated lightning strikes.
