A departing upper trough clearing to the North Sea on Monday will still be close enough to the British Isles to maintain an environment with steep mid-level lapse rates and a few hundred J/kg CAPE. Scattered showers will develop over relatively warm seas in the south and west, and will move inland on the west/northwesterly steering flow. A few isolated lightning strikes will be possible, especially along western coasts (such as Cheshire Gap / NW England). The risk of lightning will rapidly reduce by Monday evening as a ridge builds from the west and daytime heating subsides.
