A shortwave trough will swing northeastwards across Scotland on Tuesday evening, the associated cold pool aloft steepening mid-level lapse rates and generating a few hundred J/kg CAPE in response to SSTs. Clusters of showers will tend to affect western Scotland, the Northern Isles and far NW Ireland during the evening and night hours, and may produce a few isolated lightning strikes (greatest risk Outer Hebrides to Shetland). Hail and gusty winds will accompany some of the showers.
