A strip of shear vorticity has been aiding a line of thunderstorms overnight from southern Ireland into west Wales. This could persist for some time during Monday, with additional showers in parts of the Midlands and East Anglia possible. A few lightning strikes have also been detected in the English Channel first thing Monday morning, although as a frontal wave slides eastwards across this area through the day the risk of lightning should reduce. Behind a cold front over Scotland, a substantial cold pool will spread southwards overnight atop relatively warm SSTs, and there will be an increase in shower activity in northern and western Scotland as a result - perhaps with a few sporadic lightning strikes (especially near the Northern Isles).
