Convective Outlook

VALID 06:00 UTC Thu 24 Feb 2022 - 05:59 UTC Fri 25 Feb 2022

ISSUED 07:41 UTC Thu 24 Feb 2022

ISSUED BY: Dan

A pronounced upper trough will swing eastwards across Britain and Ireland on Thursday, the associated cold pool yielding several hundred J/kg CAPE in response to SSTs and modest diurnal heating inland. Numerous sea-driven showers will pile into parts of Ireland and Scotland from the west, but also potential for land-driven convection across central and eastern England as the upper trough axis overlaps with diurnal heating. In both cases, a few sporadic lightning strikes will be possible, with a couple of low-end SLGTs issued. Hail and gusty winds will accompany many showers, with particularly strong winds (partly convective) over parts of NW Ireland, Northern Ireland, SW Scotland, Irish Sea and adjacent coasts through the afternoon and evening.
