In the vicinity of a small upper vortex lifting slowly northwards around the western periphery of an upper ridge, showers and showery outbreaks of rain will affect portions of northern and western Britain in particular through Thursday and may produce a few isolated lightning strikes in places. The slow movement of embedded heavy downpours could pose the risk of some local surface water flooding. Elsewhere, parts of the English Channel and adjacent land areas could see a few elevated showers during the overnight period.
