Under a broad upper trough, showers will develop widely on Friday in response to diurnal heating. A combination of weak shear in northern Britain and limited convective depth further south suggests the risk of lightning is rather low in most areas, especially as showers may tend to grow upscale into longer spells of rain in places. Current thinking is the risk of lightning is greatest in parts of southern and eastern Scotland where a few isolated strikes may be possible, as such a low-end SLGT was introduced. The slack low-level flow and resulting areas of wind convergence may allow a few funnel clouds to develop.
