Beneath an upper trough and associated cold air aloft, diurnal heating will lead to increasingly unstable profiles and a scattering of showers across parts of central and northern Britain. A few sporadic lightning strikes will be possible, more especially across NE Scotland where an onshore breeze and associated low-level convergence will aid forced ascent. Small hail and wind gusts of 40-45mph may accompany the strongest cells.
